Looking for an easy-to-grow carnivorous plant that amazes with glistening dew drops and leaf movement? Look no further than Drosera capensis, commonly referred to as the Cape Sundew! This hearty plant will bring a smile to faces when you witness it snag flying bugs out of the air. Sundews work by producing a sticky, dew-like substance that attracts insects thinking it's a free meal. When they land on the leaf, insects get stuck, and over the course of an hour, the leaf will curl around the prey for digestion. Drosera capensis is the perfect beginner's carnivorous plant. It has no dormancy requirement, grows quickly, and will take care of that nagging gnat problem. Even better is that, if left to flower, the plant self-pollinates and produces a great seed set that will help you grow even more plants. Cape Sundews are perfect for classrooms, bright windowsills, or even most backyards. Simply keep it moist in a water tray, and give it distilled water or rainwater. Sunlight and insects will take care of the rest. Shipping note: Mesa Exotics charges $10.00 flat rate shipping to the continental US regardless of how many Drosera capensis you purchase. The sundews ship bare root and go out in the mail on Mondays and Tuesdays to reach you before the weekend.

Sarracenia 'Black Widow' is a killer cultivar pitcher plant from the gardens of Phil Faulisi. It's a primary hybrid between alata black throat x flava red (a rubicorpora) pitcher plants with 2.5 ft+ tall pitchers that start off a heavily veined red color, and turn a deep purple with age and bright light. The plant is very hearty, and I grow it outdoors in Southern California where it has withstood 115+ degree weather and little-to-no humidity. In a greenhouse, this thing would be a monster! Plants for sale are mature and ship bare root. If purchased outside of dormancy, I may have to trim pitchers in order to fit them in shipping boxes. I keep shipping simple by charging a $10 flat rate to the continental US regardless of how many plants you purchase from me. Happy growing!

Darlingtonia Californica is native to the Oregon Coastline and Southern interior and Northern California coast line.  These plants prefer cool nights.  With days occasionally up in the 90's with no greater than 70F root temperature, they still get 50F night temperatures.  Most of these plants have some sort of cool moving water over their rhizomes.  We have the best results planting these in pure sphagnum moss.  You can also use peat moss and perlite. Be sure not to keep them sitting in stagnant water, they deteriorate when this happens. This size of plant grows best in a 3-4 inch size pot, 2-3 years away from flowering size.

Nepenthes dubia upper pitchers are so simple and elegant, it's almost as if someone created a cubist painting of a Nepenthes. Dainty, yellow-green pitchers sit at the end of short tendrils where they fish for prey. This tropical pitcher plant is very similar in appearance to N. inermis, but with the faintest of peristomes. It's a great contrast to the more commonly collected large, speckled, and striped Nepenthes and perfectly demonstrates the variability of the genus. We include some photos of fully mature tropical pitcher plants so you have an idea of your plant’s potential. You will receive one immature, seed-grown Nepenthes. Shipping for Nepenthes is $8.00 for priority shipping, regardless of quantity of plants ordered from my shop (Jeremiah's Plants).

Nepenthes attenboroughii, named for the man himself, Sir David Attenborough, is a relatively newly-discovered Nepenthes species. This tropical pitcher plant, with its massive and beautifully-colored pitchers, was only described in 2009 and is very much endangered in the wild. This means that there are very few of them legally circulating in cultivation (I only have 5 available, so order fast), and each one is an absolute gem. A man of Sir David Attenborough's stature deserves to have only the best share his name. Pictures of mature plants are from expeditions I've been on to see these wonderful pitcher plants in their native habitat.

The Roundleaf Sundew, Drosera rotundifolia "NJ Pine Barrens" is a relatively small but very easy to care for sundew with genetics hailing from the Pine Barrens of NJ (produced by seed or clone). This species grows in a rosetted form with long petioles and a round shaped sticky trap at the end. These traps will curl over their prey items like grasping something in your palm. In my experience, whereas most sundews are perfectly happy being blasted with sunlight, these roundleaf sundews prefer part shade or less intense sun, perfect for a windowsill.
