Carnivorous Plants for Sale

  • Sale! Sold By: Carlton Carnivores

One of my weediest and easiest to grow plants, with pitchers up to 20 inches tall colored almost pure green with a smattering of delicate reddish veins within the pitcher interior. If you're growing Sarracenia for the first time, this is a good one to work with, and with oreophila as a parent species it should have a greater cold tolerance than most as well. Flowers are simple yellow things, and while they don't produce much in the way of pollen or seeds, they are produced in profusion for quite a show in spring.

Divisions are one to three growth points on average, flowering size. Grown outdoors in low humidity.

Plants are shipped bare-root wrapped in a moist paper towel, via USPS Priority mail; I typically ship Monday-Wednesday to avoid weekend hold-overs. US shipping only. Many plants are grown in high humidity conditions and may require acclimation, unless otherwise noted. If you are expecting weather that may be detrimental to the plants if shipped, please message me upon making your order! Shipping cost includes heat pack or cold pack/insulation as needed for detrimental weather conditions. If there are issues with the plants upon arrival, please contact me within 48 hours of receipt.

Originally grown from seed labeled as "Wilkerson's Red" x 'Adrian Slack', this plant in particular clearly has some minor type influence, making it look something between x moorei and x excellens. Pitchers are stout and grow straight, up to 15 inches or so tall but could get larger, with almost pure green tubes and a slightly domed, frilly lid that's solid bright red sprinkled with white areoles. Flowers often start out bicolor pinkish and red before aging to a solid dark reddish-pink, and sometimes put off a sweet floral odor.

Available divisions are flowering sized. Grown in low humidity outdoors.

This plant has behaved rather dwarfishly compared to its known parent, but could have the potential for getting quite a bit bigger. Pitchers reach between 10-14 inches tall, with a slender profile and mildly frilly lid, and sport deep purple veins and a maroon flush and purple lid that over time age to deeper hues overall. Flowers start out a flaming bicolor red and yellow, sometimes aging to solid red.

Available divisions are semi-mature to flowering sized. Grown in low humidity outdoors.

A stately x moorei with pitchers that can reach 20 inches tall, and opens with pink blushes and darker red veins between faint white areoles, aging to green with pinstripe veins and broader white sections. It likes to make numerous smaller growth buds, resulting a fairly densely populated container. Flowers are pinkish in hue.

Available divisions are nearly mature or mature. Grown outdoors in low humidity.

The big, the bad, and the beautiful. Sarracenia Saurus is the notorious moorei hybrid originally bred and registered by Phil Faulisi. Why is it notorious, you ask? Likely because it is widely considered the pinnacle of a horticulturally-bred moorei crosses due to its vigor, color, and ginormous proportions. It's a cross between Sarracenia leucophylla purple lips and flava ornata, and boy is it a doozy! It grows great in my personal collection, and it's about time I share a large piece of it. Featured in the photos are the exact plant you'll receive. It has at least 3 growth points and is ready to expand into a new 1 gallon+ sized pot. Also featured is an example of my mother plant to demonstrate the size this dinosaur-proportioned beast can attain.

Sarracenia stingray is another beautiful cultivar from the gardens of Phil Faulisi. This complex (rubra x oreo) x (purp x leuco) x Judith Hindle cross sports beautiful white tops, and is as vigorous and pitcher-prolific as the Judith Hindle in it. I have a large division available with at least 4 crowns (featured in the photos along with my mother plant to demonstrate how beautifully it can fill out). It will outgrow this pot this season, and should be transferred into a 1 gallon+ pot to create a gorgeous snowy-white bouquet in the spring.

Recently registered and featured in the International Carnivorous Plant Society’s September 2022 issue by Howard Bramble, pinguicula ‘Faulisi’ is definitely a collector’s plant. We recommend reading the article on the ICPS website for the story. The plant you will receive will be between 1”-1.5” in diameter. ‘Faulisi’ has by far one of the biggest pinguicula flowers, with a beautiful ruffle to its oversized, hot pink lobes and a contrasting white throat. It is also known to be a great breeder and gives a fair bit of pollen. The plant itself has a stunning rosette of flat, tongue-like leaves with a purple margin to its otherwise bright green foliage, that colors more intensely under high light. This plant typically likes a more mossy mixture in its soil, but will rot if waterlogged for long.  We would consider this to be an advanced level plant.

A Bramble’s Botanical’s-named hybrid, pinguicula “Fairy Star'' is the cross of pinguicula moranensis 'Huahuapan' x pinguicula esseriana Clone A. The plant you will receive will be between 1”-1.5” in diameter.  The pointed shape of its leaves and the way they make up a beautiful, geometric-like pattern gave it the name. The leaves stay generally a bright green hue with a slight curl to the tips that give it that star-like pattern. The flower itself is a soft lilac color that features deeper purple venation from the center, and a pale yellow throat. We would consider this to be a beginner level plant.

Pinguicula “Scrump” is a currently unknown hybrid that made its way into our collection and has become a fun one to grow. The plant you will receive will be between 1”-1.5” in diameter. The hybrid boasts full, round leaves that stay a neon-chartreuse hue of green. The flower itself is a bright pink with large, rounded top lobes and swooping lower lobes. The name comes from the color scheme, reminding us of Lilo’s voodoo doll, Scrump, in the movie Lilo & Stitch. We would consider this to be a beginner level plant.

Pinguicula “Louise Belcher” is a currently unknown hybrid, named in-house for the green-to-pink color scheme and bunny-like shape of the flower; reminding us of that lovable and spicy kid from the Bob’s Burgers animated TV show. The plant you will receive will be between 1”-1.5” in diameter. The plant itself has a clumping growth habit, with oblong leaves that stay a bright green towards the center while the ends color up a blush pink. The flower is a bright purple-pink with rounded, oblong lobes giving the flower a “bunny ear” like appearance with a white throat. We would consider this to be a beginner level plant.

A favorite among many collectors, pinguicula ehlersiae “Victoria” is a beautiful species with unique coloring. The plant grows with a small, compact rosette of pointed leaves that color up a bright pink under high light, while the outer margins stay a lighter tint. The plant you will receive will be between 1”-1.5” in diameter.  We would consider this to be an intermediate level plant.

The origins of pinguicula “Jerry P.” are unknown, and seems to be a mystery around most forums. However, it is still a beautiful plant that propagates relatively easily by leaf pullings. The plant you will receive will be between 1.5”-2” in diameter. The leaves of the plant, when mature, are long and slender with a rounded end; giving the plant an almost chrysanthemum appearance with its shape. It colors up a soft, blush pink with the center staying more green even under high light.  We would consider this to be a beginner-intermediate level plant

This species comes from Hidalgo, municipality of El Chico, Las Ventanas, at an altitude of 3000m, and can be found under oaks and juniper with silty soil in the wild. In winter, pinguicula crassifolia has a small, tight rosette while in the summer it will produce more spoon-shaped carnivorous leaves. The plant you will receive will be between 1.5”-2” in diameter. The flower is a deep, hot pink color with a very fuzzy stalk that sometimes produces no spur - we have chalked this up to a mutation in the plant we have. It has no negative effects on the health of the plant. The leaves will be a rich lime green in winter, becoming lighter in summer and may blush around the margins under high light. We would consider this to be an intermediate level plant.

This beautiful, unknown hybrid almost certainly contains pinguicula laueana and gigantea genetics. Named for the visual engineer and camera operator responsible for many of the absolutely incredible time lapse shots of plants and fungi in modern nature documentaries, including BBC’s “The Green Planet” with David Attenborough.  The plant you will receive will be between 1”-1.5” in diameter. Pinguicula “Chris R. Field” has large, tongue-like leaves that stay a pale green and color up with a pinkish tinge under high light. The flower itself is a bright pink with subtle venation, and a pale yellow throat with noticeable white hairs; the lobes are oblong with rounded ends, similar to the shape on that of pinguicula laueana. We would consider this to be a beginner-intermediate level plant.

This hybrid was named “Improbable” because it is a supposed cross with pinguicula kondoi, which is thought to be sterile. The cross itself is pinguicula agnata "Red Leaf" by pinguicula kondoi. In addition, it has an interesting growing habit where it loves to clump and divides readily. The plant you will receive will be between 1”-2” in diameter. This cross sports a cute white, pale, purple veined flower with “purple pits” and yellow throat. The leaves are rounded, mostly a pale green, but colors up a nice blush-red under high light. We would consider this to be an intermediate level plant.
