- Sold By: Carlton CarnivoresCreated by the (in?)famous Ivan Snyder, this variable variant of D. spatulata is a cross of 3 localities/varieties: Wentworth Falls x Woronorra River x var. gympiensis. Rosettes are relatively flat an average around 1.5-2 inches in diameter, with evenly tapered wedge-shaped leaves bearing very short petioles, and under good light they can readily turn wine red. Flower stalks bear many traits of var.gympiensis, being held at an angle and fairly short, sometimes hairy, and producing large clustered flowers at the tips. Blooms may turn out a rich pink, or pure white. This is not a dividing, clumping form typically, but seeds can be sown to form a carpet colony. Packets contain 40+ seeds each. This species requires no special treatment for germination, and grows best in warm, wet, strong light environments. Seeds are shipped in padded envelopes to avoid damage in transit, via USPS mail. US shipping only. As seeds can take time and sometimes special treatments in order to germinate properly, returns cannot be accepted and refunds are not available upon receipt of the seed packets. If a package is lost in transit, please contact as soon as possible.
- Sold By: Carlton CarnivoresThis fantastic Asian species develops two different kinds of rosettes; young or stressed rosettes may be around 2 inches in diameter and lay flat on the ground, with moderately thin oar-shaped leaves; mature plants in good conditions will switch over to rosettes that can be 3-4 inches across with semi-erect leaves with much longer petioles and stretched obovate lamina curving up toward the sky. Under good lighting, color is a rich olive green with scarlet tentacles, or solid crimson to wine red. Very thin, wiry stalks are produced when mature, bearing moderately, large, very spaced out light pink flowers with notably rounded petals. This is a great species for singular display, though they will occasionally divide or bud off old leaves to form colonies. Packets contain 30+ seeds each. This species requires no special treatment to germinate (though may take some time), and grows best in cool, wet, strong light environments (though can tolerate heat fairly well).
- Sold By: Carlton CarnivoresOne of the so-called "spider-leaved" sundews, D. serpens is an Australian-Asian species that develops scrambling stems that can exceed a foot in length, alternately bearing long filiform leaves up to 4 inches in length that spread up and then out as they grow. This variety stays primarily green under all conditions (though the tentacles may blush reddish), and when fed well will produce short stalks from the stem bearing moderately large, bright lilac-pink blooms. This is a great species for singular display, or in a colony, and is an annual so reproduces only through seeds. Packets contain 30+ seeds each. This species requires no special treatment to germinate, and grows best in wet, sandy soil in hot, strong light environments.
- Sold By: Carlton CarnivoresThis locality from Florida is known for producing a couple of distinctive forms of D. capillaris. This form is the flat rosetted version, growing to around 2 inches across on average with paddle shaped leaves bearing thin glabrous petioles and, when fully mature, very broad, triangular to near-rounded lamina (similar to D. burkeana). Coloration is attractive, petioles usually staying green but can blush red, and the lamina typically a bright crimson to nearly poppy red. Short, wiry stalks are produced most often in summer that bear several small, delicate light pink self-pollinating flowers. This species is great as a singular display plant, or developing carpeting colonies. Packets contain 30+ seeds each. This species requires no special treatment for germination, and tolerates a wide range of conditions but will do best in very warm, wet, strong light environments.
- Sold By: Carlton CarnivoresA beautiful and diminutive form of this species, producing rosettes usually only around an inch in diameter with the typical set of triangular, overlapping wedge-shaped leaves. As the name suggests, under most conditions the leaves stay bright green but the edge and snapping tentacles color bright scarlet (though when stressed or under very strong light the leaves may blush as well). The tall, wiry stalks bear several tiny flowers which sometimes never produce petals and simply set seeds, other times will produce delicate petals with the lightest of pink tinges. As an annual species, this one likes heavy feeding and needs to have new seeds sown to maintain colonies after adult plants die off. Packets contain 75+ seeds each. This species requires no special treatment to germinate, and grows best fed heavily and kept in hot tropical conditions with very strong light.
- Sold By: Carlton CarnivoresOne of the classic "rainbow plant" species, and also one of the largest. This taxon will develop scrambling, branching stems that may measure several feet in length, covered in filiform leaves and the entire plant coated in various length sticky tentacles. Under good light, plants will often blush with purple-red, and when fed heavily may produce one to several, or in some cases dozens, of large, electric violet flowers with contrasting bright yellow anthers in the middle. These are more or less annuals, though they can be grown from stem cuttings many times, and new seeds are best sown to continue a colony. Packets contain 15-20+ seeds each. This species requires GA3 or smoke treatment in order to trigger germination, and plants are best grown in large pots with sand wet soil in hot, strong light conditions.
- Sold By: Carlton CarnivoresBoth at once, and maybe more! Because the trait for the cultivar 'Albino' is recessive, these seeds will produce both typical-form, 'Albino', and what appears to possibly be a heightened red version of cape sundew. Plants will mature at 5-12 inches in diameter, with stems bearing erect rosettes of strap-shaped leaves in a variety of colors, and similarly flowers will be pink or white, all self-pollinating. Packets contain 50+ seeds each. This species requires no special treatment for germination, and grows in a variety of conditions but will do best in sandy soils in cool, strong light environments.
- Sold By: Carlton CarnivoresPerhaps the easiest of the "rainbow plants" to grow, this species reaches an average of 5-10 inches tall, covered in filiform leaves about 2-4 inches long and the entire plant coated in sticky glands. Plants will produce one or two flowers at a time, each with delicate narrow lavender-violet petals and bright yellow anthers in the middle. A self-pollinating species unlike most of the others, this annual will re-seed itself (though it can also be re-established through stem cuttings). Packets contain 30+ seeds each. This species does not require special treatment to germinate, but faster and more reliable results are found with GA3 or smokewater soaks, and they grow best in wet, hot conditions with strong light but will tolerate a wide range of conditions.
- Sold By: Carlton CarnivoresThis locality of D. serpens is a somewhat shorter and more heavily colored version than the common form. Plants may reach up to 8 inches or so in length, with thick stems supporting filiform leaves up to 4 inches long that spread out in all directions. Under strong lighting, color starts out bright green but will blush with age to pale and rich reds. When fed well, short curling stalks will be produced along the stem that bear large, brilliant pink broad-petaled flowers. As an annual, this species requires sowing new seeds to maintain the colony when old plants die off, and are great for either singular display or colony setups. Packets contain 30+ seeds each. This species requires no special treatment for germination, and does best in wet sandy soils in hot, very bright environments.
- Sold By: Carlton CarnivoresA putative polyploid hybrid species that is thought to have originated as D. oblanceolata x spatulata, this taxon is among the easiest sundews to grow. Rosettes around 2.5 inches in diameter possess thick oar-shaped leaves with distinct petioles and teardrop-shaped lamina, held semi-erect just off the ground once mature and colored a deep olive green to wine red in good lighting. Wiry stalks are produced regularly and bear moderately large, bright pink self-pollinating flowers. Packets contain 30+ seeds each. This species requires no special conditions to germinate, and will grow in a wide variety of conditions but does best in hot, tropical and bright environments.
- Sold By: Carlton CarnivoresYes, this is a cultivar that can be propagated by seed. 'Tamlin' has potential to be large, rosettes known to occasionally exceed 4 inches in diameter; when young the leaves remain fairly flat to the ground, but fully mature adult plants will develop elongate, tapered wedge-shaped leaves with a semi-erect, "jointed-middle" profile, and under any good light will flush a bright crimson color. Wiry stalks will produce numerous small, self-pollinating white flowers on a regular basis. Packets contain 50+ seeds each. This variety requires no special treatment for germination, an grows in a wide variety of conditions but best in hot and bright tropical conditions.
- Sold By: Carlton CarnivoresThis southern Australian variety of D. spatulata grows to around 2" in diameter, with a flat to semi-erect rosette of the classic tapering wedge shaped leaves of the species. Under good lighting, color readily flushes a rich red. Tall, wiry stalks are regularly produced bearing several self-pollinating, bright pink flowers. Packets contain 50+ seeds each. This variety requires no special conditions to germinate, and will grow in a wide variety of conditions though does best in warm, wet, and bright light environments.
- Sold By: Carlton CarnivoresU. longifolia is one of the easiest large bladderworts to grow, tolerant of a wide range of wet soil types and temperatures; leaves often reach between 6-12" in length (some may grow even longer), and if given mild seasonal cues will often send up numerous stalks in mid winter to early spring that sport several large, brilliant violet and yellow blooms up to almost 2" across. Packets contain 50+ seeds; these should be able to be cold-stored for long periods if necessary and should germinate readily on moist soil. Plants grow best in an airy sphagnum or peat/perlite mix, kept very moist to even waterlogged.
- Sold By: Carlton CarnivoresOnce considered to be a possible new carnivorous plant group, Proboscidea and its relatives are now relegated to para-carnivorous at best, or more commonly "murderous plants." This species can get large, adult plants measuring several feet across with multiple branches, leaves held on thick petioles and roughly spade-shaped. At the ends of each branch spikes of large, fleshy, 5-lobed flowers form, typically pale pinkish mauve in color with darker spots and a yellow stripe leading into the throat. These flowers also have two-lobed stigmas that move when touched, the lobes folding together to capture pollen or avoid damage. All parts of the plant are covered in tiny, sticky glandular hairs that regularly capture small insects (defense against gnats and aphids) and will attract small assassin bugs that feed on the victims. Pollinated flowers develop unique pods that, when young, can actually be harvested and cooked as a vegetable, but when mature shed their fleshy outer coating and the narrow tips split to form a pair of wickedly sharp hooks used to snag animals and carry them about to disperse seeds (occasionally crippling the animals, and thereby providing the seeds with fertilizer). Seed packs will contain approximately 10+ seeds. These seeds appear to have a fridge-storage shelf life of only a few years, so sow quickly at the start of the growing season. Please note: Proboscidea louisianica cannot be shipped to Washington State. Seeds are shipped in padded envelopes to avoid damage in transit, via USPS mail (First Class or Priority). US shipping only. As seeds can take time and sometimes special treatments in order to germinate properly, returns cannot be accepted and refunds are not available upon receipt of the seed packets. If a package is lost in transit, please contact as soon as possible.
- Sold By: Carlton CarnivoresA hybrid between the two perennial rainbow plant species, this is a large carnivores with leaves that can reach more than a foot in length on a thick stem that can also reach a foot or more in height over time (even branching with age). They can grow year-round if kept moist and cool enough, or may go dormant during the summer season, dying back to sprout again from the stem and roots. Flowers are huge, nearly 2" across and a brilliant violet coloration. Two or more different clones are needed to pollinate, but it is potentially a species that might be propagated via stem cuttings. Current stock includes primarily seeds of a backcross to lamellata. Packets contain 8-10+ seeds; this is a fire-adapted species that needs special treatment to germinate, a 4-6 day soak in 500-1000 ppm GA3 solution recommended.
