- Sold By: Carlton CarnivoresMy back yard has become an experimental breeding ground for brilliantly colored giant sunflowers, of which these seeds may produce a variety of appearances from. Influence has been had from Mammoth Russian, Evening Sunset, and a handful of other cultivars, producing plants that range anywhere from 5-12 feet tall and produce anything from several 8 inch blooms on branching stems to a singular bloom up to 15 inches across. Colors too can vary from yellow flushed with oranges and rust at the petal bases to entirely deep rusty red or maroon. Great for making garden borders or a sunflower forest to wander through, and some may even produce seeds big enough to roast and eat. Packets contain approximately 20+ seeds and require no special treatment to germinate. Seeds are shipped in padded envelopes to avoid damage in transit, via USPS mail (First Class or Priority). US shipping only. As seeds can take time and sometimes special treatments in order to germinate properly, returns cannot be accepted and refunds are not available upon receipt of the seed packets. If a package is lost in transit, please contact as soon as possible.
- Sold By: Carlton CarnivoresOne of the quintessential beginner carnivorous plants, and one of the better ones to try if it's your first time with seeds. This species can grow to over a foot across (though usually 4-6 inches) with semi-erect, strap shaped leaves colored bright yellow-green with red tentacles. The leaves will actively move when stimulated by prey, wrapping around whatever is fed to or caught by them. Typically prolific in blooming, when happy they will send up hairy, foot long stalks with numerous very large, self-pollinating pink flowers. Packets contain 30-50+ seeds each. This species requires no special treatment for germination, and grows in a variety of conditions but will do best in sandy soils in cool, strong light environments. Seeds are shipped in padded envelopes to avoid damage in transit, via USPS mail. US shipping only. As seeds can take time and sometimes special treatments in order to germinate properly, returns cannot be accepted and refunds are not available upon receipt of the seed packets. If a package is lost in transit, please contact as soon as possible.
- Sold By: Carlton CarnivoresD. spatulata "Gold Coast" is an a attractive and potentially fairly large variety from northern Australia, with more or less flat rosettes of very elongate, tapered wedge-shaped leaves that very readily blush a rich bright to deep crimson in good lighting and can easily exceed 2-3" in diameter. Short wiry stalks are regularly sent up, producing several small, self-pollinating white flowers. Packets contain 50+ seeds. This is a tropical form that requires no special treatment for germination and grows well in a variety of conditions, but will do best in hot and humid locations.
- Sold By: Carlton CarnivoresOriginating in northern Florida, this cultivar of D. capillaris is a rapid-growing and attractive variety. Rosettes are typically small, averaging around 1.5" in diameter, with flat to semi-erect paddle-shaped leaves that can develop rich red tentacles, but are otherwise bright green under all lighting conditions. Once established and mature, they will send up tall stalks bearing several small, self-pollinating white flowers. Mature plants also often divide, forming dense clumping colonies over time. Packets contain 40+ seeds. This is a subtropical variety that does not require any special treatment for germination, and will grow in a wide variety of conditions.
- Sold By: Carlton CarnivoresOften mistakenly labeled as coming from Mount Roraima, this tropical form of D. intermedia is an ever-growing, easy species for a collection. Rosettes may reach up to 3 inches in diameter and rarely develop stems, with an erect to semi-erect pincushion arrangement of thin paddle-shaped leaves. Under strong lighting this form may even take on a distinctive reddish tinge, unlike many temperate forms which may remain mostly green. Once mature short wiry stalks are produced almost constantly and bear several small, self-pollinating white flowers. A great plant for a solitary display, they will also sometimes bud off old leaves and form loose colonies. Packets contain 30+ seeds each. This species requires no special treatment for germination, and grows best in warm to hot tropical and strong light environments.
- Sold By: Carlton CarnivoresA beautiful and diminutive form of this species, producing rosettes usually only around an inch in diameter with the typical set of triangular, overlapping wedge-shaped leaves. As the name suggests, under most conditions the leaves stay bright green but the edge and snapping tentacles color bright scarlet (though when stressed or under very strong light the leaves may blush as well). The tall, wiry stalks bear several tiny flowers which sometimes never produce petals and simply set seeds, other times will produce delicate petals with the lightest of pink tinges. As an annual species, this one likes heavy feeding and needs to have new seeds sown to maintain colonies after adult plants die off. Packets contain 75+ seeds each. This species requires no special treatment to germinate, and grows best fed heavily and kept in hot tropical conditions with very strong light.
- Sold By: Carlton CarnivoresBoth at once, and maybe more! Because the trait for the cultivar 'Albino' is recessive, these seeds will produce both typical-form, 'Albino', and what appears to possibly be a heightened red version of cape sundew. Plants will mature at 5-12 inches in diameter, with stems bearing erect rosettes of strap-shaped leaves in a variety of colors, and similarly flowers will be pink or white, all self-pollinating. Packets contain 50+ seeds each. - Sold By: Carlton CarnivoresPerhaps the easiest of the "rainbow plants" to grow, this species reaches an average of 5-10 inches tall, covered in filiform leaves about 2-4 inches long and the entire plant coated in sticky glands. Plants will produce one or two flowers at a time, each with delicate narrow lavender-violet petals and bright yellow anthers in the middle. A self-pollinating species unlike most of the others, this annual will re-seed itself (though it can also be re-established through stem cuttings). Packets contain 30+ seeds each. This species does not require special treatment to germinate, but faster and more reliable results are found with GA3 or smokewater soaks, and they grow best in wet, hot conditions with strong light but will tolerate a wide range of conditions.
- Sold By: Carlton CarnivoresA pygmy sundew that well and truly lives up to its name; mature plants may not even reach 1/2" across, developing tiny rosettes of paddle-shaped leaves that remain entirely green save for a yellow-orange tint to the tentacles. Hundreds can fit in a carpet in a two-inch pot, and unlike other pygmies, this one isn't quite so sensitive to root disturbance. Flowers, if produced, are delicate white. Packets contain 20+ gemmae each. Drosera gemmae are shipped wrapped in moist paper towels and plastic packs to avoid drying out, shipped via USPS First Class mail. US shipping only. If you are expecting detrimental weather that may impact survival of the gemmae, please contact me immediately when ordering; if otherwise damaged upon arrival or package is lost in transit, please notify immediately to arrange replacements where possible.
- Sold By: Carlton CarnivoresD. spatulata "Ahipara Gumfields" is a small form of the species from the far north end of New Zealand. - Sold By: Carlton CarnivoresThough there is question whether this is truly a hybrid or simply an impressive form of D. spatulata, this plant is beautiful one way or another. Rosettes can exceed 3 inches across, with semi-erect leaves bearing long petioles and wedge-shaped lamina and a rich red color in almost any good lighting. Flower stalks are moderately long and produce numerous self-pollinating white blooms. Packets contain 50+seeds each. This variety does not require special conditions to germinate, an will grow in a wide variety of conditions but best in warm tropical conditions. Seeds are shipped in padded envelopes to avoid damage in transit, via USPS mail. US shipping only. If a package is lost in transit, please contact as soon as possible.
- Sold By: Carlton CarnivoresThis locality from Florida is known for producing a couple of distinctive forms of D. capillaris. This form is the flat rosetted version, growing to around 2 inches across on average with paddle shaped leaves bearing thin glabrous petioles and, when fully mature, very broad, triangular to near-rounded lamina (similar to D. burkeana). Coloration is attractive, petioles usually staying green but can blush red, and the lamina typically a bright crimson to nearly poppy red. Short, wiry stalks are produced most often in summer that bear several small, delicate light pink self-pollinating flowers. This species is great as a singular display plant, or developing carpeting colonies. Packets contain 30+ seeds each. This species requires no special treatment for germination, and tolerates a wide range of conditions but will do best in very warm, wet, strong light environments. Seeds are shipped in padded envelopes to avoid damage in transit, via USPS mail. US shipping only. As seeds can take time and sometimes special treatments in order to germinate properly, returns cannot be accepted and refunds are not available upon receipt of the seed packets. - Sold By: Carlton CarnivoresOnce considered to be a possible new carnivorous plant group, Proboscidea and its relatives are now relegated to para-carnivorous at best, or more commonly "murderous plants." This species can get large, adult plants measuring several feet across with multiple branches, leaves held on thick petioles and roughly spade-shaped. At the ends of each branch spikes of large, fleshy, 5-lobed flowers form, typically pale pinkish mauve in color with darker spots and a yellow stripe leading into the throat. These flowers also have two-lobed stigmas that move when touched, the lobes folding together to capture pollen or avoid damage. All parts of the plant are covered in tiny, sticky glandular hairs that regularly capture small insects (defense against gnats and aphids) and will attract small assassin bugs that feed on the victims. Pollinated flowers develop unique pods that, when young, can actually be harvested and cooked as a vegetable, but when mature shed their fleshy outer coating and the narrow tips split to form a pair of wickedly sharp hooks used to snag animals and carry them about to disperse seeds (occasionally crippling the animals, and thereby providing the seeds with fertilizer). Seed packs will contain approximately 10+ seeds. These seeds appear to have a fridge-storage shelf life of only a few years, so sow quickly at the start of the growing season. Please note: Proboscidea louisianica cannot be shipped to Washington State.
- Sold By: Carlton CarnivoresA species of pygmy sundew that develops pincushion-shaped rosettes of green leaves with red ovular traps approximately a half inch in diameter and developing stems up to an inch or so tall. When they bloom, short hairy stalks sport white flowers. This is a species that does well in sandy mixes in deep pots. Gemmae packets contain 20+ gemmae.
- Sold By: Carlton CarnivoresLooking for an orchid to try as a first-time grower? Or for something at least a little different from the common garden center moth orchids? This is a great option to try, and even one that, unlike most orchids, can be sprouted from seeds without special conditions. All you need is some moist, airy soil of some sort (sphagnum and orchid bark works well) and time. Plants tend to produce one or two long, lance-shaped leaves that hug the soil, dying back to the tubers for a cool, dry winter period, and in summer send up stalks up to 2 feet or more tall that sport from one to over a dozen delicate white and lavender flowers that easily self-pollinate. Packets contain likely 150-200+ fine, dust-like seeds. Seeds are shipped in padded envelopes to avoid damage in transit, via USPS mail (First Class). US shipping only. As seeds can take time and sometimes special treatments in order to germinate properly, returns cannot be accepted and refunds are not available upon receipt of the seed packets. If a package is lost in transit, please contact as soon as possible.
