What's interesting about this population is that it is considered the southernmost population of Sarracenia purpurea ssp. venosa. The colors here are what truly stand out. Spring colors tend to start out with green, boldly veined pitchers and age into ornately veined crimson pitchers. Let me tell you, in a tray of mixed purps, you can tell Tattnal's from a mile away in the best way possible. I imagine that this population of plants will become a staple in carnivorous collections! Clone A" is a variety of Southern Purple Pitcher Plant native to the Appalachian mountains of the Carolinas with the leaf lids curled inwards. This is a very gorgeous and vigorous clone, with nearly solid red bodies and heavily veined, bright green leaf lids in the spring, before turning solid red-purple in the fall! All clones are genetically identical. The population from Greenville, South Carolina has slight shape differences in pitchers than other mountain or southern purple pitcher plants. The leaf lid "hunches forward" a bit, at least that's what I see. I have a few different clones, photos are representative of the typical look of this variety, but your exact clone may vary a bit.
