An in-house Brambles Botanicals hybrid, Pinguicula “Bled” is agnata “True Blue” x agnata “Red Leaf” (CROSS # 21023). The name “Bled” is a blend of “Blue” and “Red” from each parent’s name.
Each plant from this series is a seed-grown, genetically unique, pure Pinguicula agnata from two agnata varieties on the opposite end of the spectrum from each other: agnata “True Blue” has little-to-no anthocyanin (pigmentation) so the leaves stay green, while agnata “Red Leaf” has increased levels of anthocyanin and will, under intense light, produce blood red leaves. “True Blue’s flowers are vibrantly colored in a blue-ish lavender while the flowers of “Red Leaf” are whiter, usually only featuring lavender coloration on the edges of the petals while the flower is young. So “True Blue” has amazing flowers while “Red Leaf” has amazing leaves, and many “Bleds” are already showing the best features of both parents.
We’re selling plants that are 1-2 inches across. If they haven’t already, they will be producing their first flowers soon!
