Pinguicula “Starburst” | Butterwort

An in-house Brambles Botanicals hybrid, Pinguicula “Starburst” is agnata “Red Leaf” x rectifolia (CROSS # 21065). This series produces a lot of variability in both flowers and leaves.

We named this series “Starburst” because all of the flowers appear to have an explosive quality, sometimes with imperfections like Tie-dye patterns or mottling that reminded us of astronomical events unfolding— but also the candy, particularly because this series’ glistening leaves often have a pinkish hue that makes the plants look like candy.

The mother plant, agnata “Red Leaf,” is known for producing blood-red leaves under high light, due to increased anthocyanin (pigmentation). The father plant, rectifolia, has dramatic, purple flowers with slight ruffles which makes for an endlessly versatile combination when mixed with agnata “Red Leaf’s rounder, whiter flower.

The plants we have available are 1-2 inches across. Each plant is genetically unique, seed-grown, and one-of-a-kind!

Brambles Botanicals is run by a husband and wife team, Howard and Beastie Bramble, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. We’re small-scale, hobbyist growers selling the extra plants that we just don’t have any room for. We both have a range of experience but we specialize in carnivorous plants, especially tropical butterworts and their hybridization. We have been producing our own Pinguicula hybrids for a few years now and are excited to be releasing some brand new, named, in-house cultivars as well as some age-old classics and species. Howard is the proud registrar of Pinguicula ‘Faulisi.’ (See Volume 51, No. 3 of the Carnivorous Plant Newsletter, published September 2022.) We also offer plant troubleshooting and advice. If you have any questions please feel free to send us an email at or DM us on Instagram @bramblesbotanicals. We hope you enjoy our selection and we appreciate your business!
