Carlton Carnivores is a small home business specializing in the propagation of carnivorous and other unusual plants, as well as select wildflower species, to promote curiosity, education, and conservation. Earnings also go to the care of reptiles and mantids for educational purposes, teaching about the organisms often overlooked or misunderstood by many people and promoting their protection.

All plants and seeds available are produced or established in growth by Carlton Carnivores; no wild-collected plants or resales here. Seeds are kept in cold storage to maintain viability (unless otherwise noted).

Originally acquired from Cascade Carnivores, this all-green form of the northern purple pitcher has been a steady, and when given enough space rapid grower that seems quite tolerant of my fluctuating conditions, easily taking summer temperatures exceeding 100F if a bit shaded and like all northerns quite tolerant of the cold. Pitchers average around 6" tall, sometimes taller, with a moderately narrow profile for the species and pure glowing yellow-green coloration; flowers similarly are entirely cream and green.

Available plants are mature divisions with 1 or more growth points, example in the second image.

Plants are shipped bare-root wrapped in a moist paper towel, via USPS Priority mail; I typically ship Monday-Wednesday to avoid weekend hold-overs. US shipping only. Many plants are grown in high humidity conditions and may require acclimation, unless otherwise noted. If you are expecting weather that may be detrimental to the plants if shipped, please message me upon making your order! Shipping cost includes heat pack for winter conditions.

The giant of my collection currently, this version of the coppertop pitcher plant has produced traps nearly 30 inches tall even in my dry climate, the pitchers starting off with a bright bronze lid and red veins on the interior that often expand into a red throat blotch in the column. It regularly produces a full suite of spring pitchers, and several more that may appear through summer and fall before being replaced by phyllodia. Available plants are LARGE, multi-growth point or very hefty single-point divisions as shown in the last image. One of the most famous and sought-after species, this strict highlander is capable of producing traps up to a gallon in volume and over a foot long. This is the Thomas Alt clone, a TC origin plant that is still young, but with a lot of promise. Available plants are rooted basal cuttings approximately 1.5-2" in diameter. One of several clones of a classic lowland species that originated from seed here, this particular plant develops roughly cylindrical lower pitchers that are marked by distinct veins and a brick-red coloration in good light, and uppers with a similar shape but lighter color. A true lowlander, these plants like hot weather and very high humidity to do well, and produce massive root systems that don't really care about soaking in water, so they're good for swampy pots and wet spots.

Available plants are rooted cuttings with new growth just beginning to develop.

One of two seed-grown clones of N. gracilis that I have that earn the oft-used (if invalid) moniker var. nigropurpurea," this particular plant tends to produce richly red to almost black-shaded leaves and 2-3" tall lower pitchers that are tricolored in shades of red to deep purple-black; upper pitchers tend to be lighter colored with a green background but darkening from the bottom up into the same tricolor red-purple pattern.

One rooted cutting currently available, with a 4" leafspan.

A mystery plant that no one seems to know the real origin or ID of; originally distributed as N. mindanaoensis, it's clearly not that species but rather likely to be a mirabilis hybrid with possibly one of the Indochinese species. An easy lowland-preferring grower, it produces numerous chunky cylindrical traps colored in shades of yellowish to orange-red. Available plants are rooted cuttings with approx. 4" leafspan. If you're looking for a plant that's dark, relatively small, and makes tubby pitchers, this is a great option. A known male clone, this seed-grown hybrid develops leaves about 8" long on vines that often reach only a couple feet long before blooming or making basals. Lower pitchers are usually around 3" tall, squat and not-quite-cylindrical, with heavy mottling of deep red to purple on red-flushed tan or light brown. The peristome is often flattened and thick, opening bright red before darkening to nearly black. Upper pitchers are similar in color, but have a more funnel-shaped form.

Available rooted cuttings are between 4-10" in diameter.

Though a sibling to the very dark Clone A and an even faster grower, this plant has a very different color scheme. Plants may grow to over 5 feet in length fairly easily but with moderately sized slender leaves, and lower pitchers may exceed 5" tall with an extremely chunky, slightly hourglass profile and a thick peristome with scalloped edges. Color is a light red to crimson on a green to cream/pinkish background, the peristome greenish flushed red to crimson. Upper pitchers are similar though smaller and more funnel-shaped with lighter tones.

Available rooted cuttings are between 5-10" in diameter.

This species tends to develop short, slender upright stems up to a foot tall, with leaves often no more than 2" in length and often flushed throughout in rich red color. The stem is topped often by a cluster of bright purple flowers with pale backs and heavily serrated petal edges. Like most Byblis, they require cross-pollination to produce seeds and do best with lots of room for the roots to spread. Packets contain approx. 10 seeds. Seeds do require special treatment (GA3 solution, smoke treatment, or similar) to germinate. Seeds are shipped in padded envelopes to avoid damage in transit, via USPS mail (First Class or Priority). US shipping only. As seeds can take time and sometimes special treatments in order to germinate properly, returns cannot be accepted and refunds are not available upon receipt of the seed packets. If a package is lost in transit, please contact as soon as possible.

A large rainbow plant form that can grow erect up to nearly 3 feet tall in some cases, under restricted conditions may form a scrambling vine to even greater lengths, with leaves that can be well over a foot long. Flowers are impressively large, nearly 2" across at times with bright purple petals bearing mildly serrated edges and bright yellow anthers in the center to contrast. Best grown in a large pot with lots of room for roots and overhead growth. Packets contain approx. 10+ seeds; seeds do require special treatment (GA3 solution, smoke treatment, or similar) to germinate. Byblis are uncommonly grown as is, hybrids even rarer especially as sometimes it's hard to get the cross to succeed. This particular hybrid however seems not only fairly easy to produce, but easy to grow as well thanks to the female parent. Exhibiting rapid growth, small and delicate flowers, and sometimes the self-pollinating traits of B. liniflora, it also sports serrated, darker purple petals, red flushes (sometimes, not always) in the stems and leaves, and a more slender, erect growth form like B. rorida. Packets contain approx. 15-20+ seeds each; seeds do require special treatment (GA3 solution, smoke treatment, or similar) to germinate. Seeds are shipped in padded envelopes to avoid damage in transit, via USPS mail (First Class or Priority). US shipping only. A rarely offered and highly sought after butterwort, this supposed moranensis form develops rosettes that average around 4" in diameter at full size (often less than an inch in winter phase) with broad semi-ovular leaves that stay bright green in most conditions. The flowers are fairly small, but shockingly colored in bright white with deep violet patches right around the throat.

Available plants are semi-mature, and currently in/exiting winter phase so only 1/2-1" across.

The first release of this homemade cross; 'Huahuapan' develops massive rosettes of broad ovular leaves and loads of electric and deep violet flowers with elegant petals; "ANPA A" is slightly smaller but with flowers that display incredible contrast in pure white and deep purple marks around the throat. An example of what the flowers can look like is shown in the selected "Clone A" in the image.

Currently available plants are young, approximately 1" across.

A mere handful of seed-grown clones currently available; this is a cross between two shockingly beautiful plants (supposedly both forms of moranensis) with a lot of potential. The mother plant averages 3-4" in diameter and makes small but eye-catching flowers that are brilliant white with electric violet highlights around the throat, the pollen parent can reach over 6" across at times and makes large flowers that sport elegantly slender, curving petals and a myriad of light and dark violet shades. Offspring should land somewhere in the middle, around 5" in diameter at full size and with flowers in shades of violet with dark spots near the throat (pictures represent adult siblings to demonstrate expected appearances).

Available plants are around 1.5-2" in diameter.
