Carlton Carnivores is a small home business specializing in the propagation of carnivorous and other unusual plants, as well as select wildflower species, to promote curiosity, education, and conservation. Earnings also go to the care of reptiles and mantids for educational purposes, teaching about the organisms often overlooked or misunderstood by many people and promoting their protection.

All plants and seeds available are produced or established in growth by Carlton Carnivores; no wild-collected plants or resales here. Seeds are kept in cold storage to maintain viability (unless otherwise noted).

Price is for approximately 1-2" diameter dormant tubers; if you're familiar with the Titan arum that gets on the news whenever it blooms, this is a much easier to grow, smaller cousin. During the summer growing season the plants will develop a single leaf up to 6 feet tall and nearly as wide, looking like a mini tree with a mottled dark green and tannish petiole and branching leaflets of bright green. Keep in a rich well-drained soil and feed heavily at this time, and they'll develop tubers that can eventually be more than a foot across and up to 20 pounds (though usually smaller), and when they go dormant, can even survive outdoor winters in milder zones. Mature tubers (usually over 6" across) may start the season by producing an inflorescence anywhere from 2-6 feet tall, with the same mottled stalk as the leaf sports but topped in a vase-shaped spathe mottled on the outside and maroon inside surrounding a tall spadix of the same color. This is a flower you'll want outside when it opens; they don't earn the name "corpse flower" lightly! Tubers are shipped dry-wrapped and padded, via USPS Priority mail; I typically ship Monday-Wednesday to avoid weekend hold-overs. US shipping only. Many plants are grown in high humidity conditions and may require acclimation, unless otherwise noted. If you are expecting weather that may be detrimental to the plants if shipped, please message me upon making your order!

A small, delicate pipevine that is quite easy to grow; plants may mature at less than a foot long, with leaves around 2" wide with a fan-shaped array of silvery veins on deep green. Flowers may be no more than an inch or two across, with a bulbous base and curving neck  that spreads into a flared, fimbriated opening; anthers and stigma are within the base, so for pollination one must cut into the side of the bloom and differently aged blooms pollinate best. Packets contain approximately 10 seeds; no special treatment is required to germinate. Seeds are shipped in padded envelopes to avoid damage in transit, via USPS mail (First Class). US shipping only. As seeds can take time and sometimes special treatments in order to germinate properly, returns cannot be accepted and refunds are not available upon receipt of the seed packets. If a package is lost in transit, please contact as soon as possible.

A plant with many names depending on who you talk to; once classified under Epilobium, and some say the current name is spelled Chamaenerion. Fireweed or Fireflower is a widespread US native species, a colonizer of newly burned locations and open soils (especially if it's rich and well-drained or acidic) and prolific once established. Plants may grow as tall as 3 feet, with branching stems of lance-shaped deep red-green leaves topped by spikes of large, bright mauve-pink blooms that produce long seedpods full of tiny seeds attached to wind-dispersed fluff. A great plant for an outdoor pot, or any spot that you just can't quite get anything else to grow (so long as adequate water is given). Packets contain approximately 50+ seeds, which benefit from a month-long cold stratification.

This pygmy sundew grows to around 3/4 inch in diameter, producing flat rosettes of paddle-shaped leaves with extremely wide petioles and circular traps tinged orange by the tentacles. When they bloom, thin stalks will sport several strikingly metallic orange flowers as wide as or wider than the plant itself. Packets contain approximately 20+ gemmae each. Drosera gemmae are shipped wrapped in moist paper towels and plastic packs to avoid drying out, shipped via USPS First Class mail. US shipping only. If you are expecting detrimental weather that may impact survival of the gemmae, please contact me immediately when ordering; if otherwise damaged upon arrival or package is lost in transit, please notify immediately to arrange replacements where possible.

Often erroneously called "Alba" or "var. alba," this horticulturally produced cultivar is a recessive gene that removes most of the anthocyanin pigment from the plant, leaving only tints of pink in the tentacles of well-lit specimens. Plants can grow to nearly 8" across (sometimes more, though often average around 4-6") and develop stems several inches high, with strap-shaped bright green leaves. Flowers are somewhat smaller than other cape forms, but just as self-fertile and pure white.

Available plants are semi-mature to mature at around 3-5" in diameter.

Yes, this is in fact a filiformis cross. A homemade hybrid, plants average around 1.5" in diameter but can reach to nearly 3" in some cases, with stemless semi-erect rosettes of elongate "baseball bat" shaped leaves; short but distinct petioles and tapering wedge-shaped lamina show traits between the two parents. Color in proper lighting is typically a rich crimson throughout. Short, wiry stalks are occasionally produced, bearing moderately large, light pink flowers with rounded petals. Does best in a sandy wet soil and warm conditions. Available plants are between 1-1.5" across or clumps of multiple smaller plants. Plants are shipped bare-root wrapped in a moist paper towel, via USPS Priority mail; I typically ship Monday-Wednesday to avoid weekend hold-overs. US shipping only. Many plants are grown in high humidity conditions and may require acclimation, unless otherwise noted. A Carlton Carnivores original hybrid, this spectacular plant can be slow to grow when small, but eventually develops firework-like rosettes up to 2.5" in diameter with thin paddle-shaped leaves that splay out in all directions and tipped in broad teadrop shaped lamina. New leaves are bright green with crimson tentacles, and as they droop with age they also develop deep red infusion for a bicolor appearance overall. The flower stalks are thick, slightly hairy, and support numerous impressive, broad-petaled white flowers. Though old leaves can sometimes bud to help form colonies, this is a cross more reluctant to do so on its own, and so does well as a singular display plant. Available plants are between 1.5-2" in diameter. This South African classic is an easy growing and variable rosetted species, developing flat spreads up to 2 inches in diameter with broad, wedge or spoon-shaped leaves very similar to but smaller than D. aliciae, and with a longer petiole. In good light, plants may develop a nearly solid red color, though often remain a tinted yellow-green with crimson tentacles. The flower stalks are lengthy, supporting several pale mauve, narrow-petaled flowers that often bear darker centers. This is a species that does best in cooler conditions, and will divide or bud from the roots to form colonies over time.

Available plants are typically 1-1.5" in diameter. Plants are shipped bare-root wrapped in a moist paper towel, via USPS Priority mail; I typically ship Monday-Wednesday to avoid weekend hold-overs. US shipping only. A pygmy sundew that well and truly lives up to its name; mature plants may not even reach 1/2" across, developing tiny rosettes of paddle-shaped leaves that remain entirely green save for a yellow-orange tint to the tentacles. Hundreds can fit in a carpet in a two-inch pot, and unlike other pygmies, this one isn't quite so sensitive to root disturbance. Flowers, if produced, are delicate white. Packets contain 20+ gemmae each.
