Strange, fun, and slightly absurd prints and art inspired by carnivorous plants.
Designers in the U.K. have created an insect-powered LCD clock that contains a flypaper-equipped roller with a scraper at the base that captures and deposits insects into a microbial fuel cell. Bacteria digest the insects, creating chemical changes that allow the cell to extract the biomass energy that perpetuates the rollers and powers the clock.
Inspired by this unique clock design, Lee Davis pushes his brand of bold iconographic surrealism to explore the axioms of time. Integrating carnivorous plants with timepieces, Davis’ “Steam Chunk” series is a deliberately layered collection with nods to Salvador Dali, Albert Einstein, and the chemical elements extracted by carnivorous plants.
